Sensory Adaptation

a process where our brain cells become less sensitive to a constant stimulus over time, essentially “tuning out” a sensation that remains unchanging, allowing us to focus on new or important stimuli in our environment.

Examples:

  • not constantly feeling the clothes on your body.
  • not being distracted by the windshield wipers running in your car.
  • not noticing a ceiling fan running in your room.
